Lame-O

I am lame.

I’m not kidding. I really am lame. I’ve been ignoring the pain and stiffness in my left knee for a couple of years little while now, thinking I just needed to work it out.

Today I worked it out. I worked it out as I was turning a corner at the preschool. I heard a little ting and felt a little pop and thought for a second that I would just like to lay down on the floor for a while. Except I had things to do. So I hobbled around on the ball of my left foot because to straighten out the leg and put any weight on it just intensified that desire to lay on the floor.

Here’s the funny thing. I had actually planned to go to the local running store where they analyze your gait and fit you with the proper running walking shoe so I could start walking around the track with some of the teachers. The ring leader, of course, has accused me of just trying to get out of walking.

Maybe. Nuh-uh.

There wasn’t a ton of hobbling going on at work today. Mostly I sat at one desk or another, sending stuff to the printer that someone else brought to me. And this evening Todd has waited on me while I sit all comfy like with my leg resting on the ottoman and a pillow propped under my knee. Now that I think of it, I should have claimed a bum knee years ago!

It’s a little swollen and slightly discolored under the knee and a little swollen above the knee and the teensiest bit furry in one spot on top of the knee. I have an appointment with an orthopedic doctor on Thursday.

Note to self: Shave your knees twice and then once more for good measure.

So that’s my excitement for the day. And I thought just the fact it was the first day of preschool would be exciting enough. That’s what I get for thinking.

Shanks. I don’t actually think it’s a big deal. I just wanted some sympathy. 🙂

    Hi Jenny,
I hope all goes well with your ortho doctor appointment. Regardless of your current aches and pains, you are forever young in my memory! I miss you and think of you often. My mom fell and broke her hip a few months back, requiring surgery. It has been a long and difficult recovery process for her. How are your mom and dad? I remember them both so fondly. My love to you and Todd 🙂

Sheila! It’s always such a treat to see your name!!

Your poor mother! My mom has had both hips replaced and both times the recovery was pretty horrendous. I can only imagine what it’s like for a broken hip. Please tell her hello for me!

I’ve got the same thing going on here & have had for 4 months now. I’m a nurse & an old one at that, so we make the worst patients imaginable… 2nd only to doctors!

I have the cracking, popping, pain in the left knee plus pain running up & down the left leg. I suspect it’s sciatica + arthritis in that left knee. I know exactly what the ortho is going to do (if I ever go to one): MRI of knee, diagnosis of “arthritis” or maybe “bone spur”, cortisone injections to see if that will help, it won’t or not for long anyway, then an order for a scope of that knee. Thou$and$ of dollar$ later, it’ll still be no better or not much, so he’ll suggest a knee replacement–which I’d never have in a million years.

That’s why I still hobble. I’m not only a nurse but I’m clairvoyant too. How’s that for talent?! 🙂

    I wish you well, kiddo!!
