HAPPY, HAPPY, JOY, JOY — SNOW!!

On my way back to bed after “powdering my nose” at 4:00 this morning I looked out the window and look what I saw!

Except it was darker. At 5:15 the phone rang and it was the school district informing us school was closed today. I told the children the happy news so they could turn off their alarms and then fell back to sleep. Todd was supposed to be in a class today, but they cancelled it yesterday so he had already planned to work from home. How convenient… for me. It was 8-ish when I came downstairs and Todd had made a pot of coffee. Oh happy day!

Ben wasn’t quite so lucky, though. He still had to go to work today. But first he had to shovel out his car.

Todd cruelly told Ben he was going to watch him from the window while sipping a mug of hot tea. And he did. Katie stood there with him, both of them knocking on the window and waiving cheerily in their warm jammies. All I want to know is where is the love?

While I don’t like our brass lamp post, I do like the pretty light bulb inside and the tiny icicles hanging from the top.

A couple months ago I meant to buy the kids snow pants, but we never got around to it. We hadn’t had any snow, after all. Katie was griping that she only had jeans to wear when I remembered my old ski pants in my closet. Why I still have them is totally beyond me. I’ll never be able to wear them again. Ever. In fact, I had to buy a larger size of overalls the last time I went skiing (12 years ago or so). Todd got those for Katie at first and while she didn’t exactly swim in them, she waded.

So I got the old ski pants for her and they fit! Well, they fit over her size 0 jeans with a bit of room to be comfortable, but the belt cinched at her waist perfectly and the length was just right. Proof that I haven’t always been this “pleasantly plump”! And no, I’ve never been a size 0 or a size 2 or a size, well, just suffice it to say I’ve never been that tiny.

Don’t you just love the orange hat? All fuzzy and warm. I don’t know why she’s not smiling. The girl has been a poser since she was a baby. She could be pouting or fussing but as soon as she saw the camera she was a fashion model. I suppose she was antsy to get outside in her new snow pants and I was boiling her vibe.

“Where’s Taylor in all this?”, you may be asking yourself. He was still in bed until about 11:00 or so. Saving his energy for shoveling the driveway and sidewalk, no doubt.

  1. Luckyyyyyyy! My Joshua Tree photo wasn’t taken this year. We only had a small dusting so far…and though the sky is stormy, and it’s snowing in the mountains near the pass by us, nada. Zip. I wanna play in the snow, too! Y’all have fun now!P.S. I still have a pair of shorts from my skinny-minnie days of college. I’ve saved them, because my dream is to one day fit into them again. The way things are going, I’ll be 80 years old, taking pictures to post on my blog. And somehow, it just won’t be all I’d envisioned it would be….so maybe I’ll just go toss them out now and save myself the torment.

  2. Yay for you on snow day!! It’s funny that you don’t like your lantern ’cause that is my favorite pic!! And the scowling girl with a day off from school is my second favorite! I’m pretty happy to look at all the lovely pictures people are posting of their winter while not having to be the one to dig out of it!

  3. I love snow days!!! They are just the best! Love the pictures, makes me happy I am inside and under my blanket. I LOVE the orange hat, she is such a cutie. She looks like she is ready to head out and have some major fun in the snow. Hope you had hot chocolate on hand.XOXOXO

  4. Oh bee jeebers girl, I had to cover my eyes when I see these photos!! All that white stuff! ACK!!! It’s like being blinded!! Enjoy it while you can…it’s enough to make me break out in hives!!!!

  5. Becky – My “playing” in the snow was shoveling the driveway. A BIG driveway! But I did it for the exercise so I can fit into those ski pants again some day. *snort*S4J – I like the picture of the lamp and the lamp itself isn’t so bad, but I want a black one instead of a brass one. That’s all. :o) As for the scowling girl, we hardly saw her today. She and the friends came and shoveled the sidewalk (again – lots of sidewalk because we have a corner lot), she ate dinner with us and then left again to spend the night at a friend’s house.Mommy – Thanks! Glad you had fun in the snow today!Eileen – Not only do we have hot chocolate, we’ve got tons of mini marshmallows too!Sherry – DON’T LOOK! I’m sure it will be gone in the next day or two anyway.

  6. You’re on a regular bloggy-tear here! 3 in 3 days. Woot woot. ;)I think we’ve had one closure and one or 2 late starts. I suspect that the fat lady has sung, and while we’ll still have winter, we’re headed for more of the 40-50 drizzle, rather than snow. The mtns around here have gotten dumped on though! Some of the kids who are in ski school on Fridays couldn’t go one Friday because the passes were closed from too much snow. Go figure. It’s clear how much you enjoy these guys and how much they enjoy you. xxxooogretchen

  7. Jen, the snow looks fabulous! I am so jealous. Here in Virginia we get dustings that rarely turn into anything worth playing in. My kids don’t even know what snowpants are. I do miss the northern snows (lived in Paoli, then an Albany NY suburb until I moved here in my “late 20s”, so long ago!) but I don’t want that kind of snow here! No one here knows how to drive in it, which is very scary for those of us who do. When I was employed, and they called for snow, I’d leave the office early to get off the roads before the crazy natives were driving home too…..Loved your coffee post from Thursday, too! I can relate, with my tea.Take care,Katie

  8. I’m so glad you got to enjoy the snow! Yay, as for me I’m ready for it to go away…we have had ALOT this winter! Thanks for stopping by, sorry I brought back a bunch of no fun memories!

  9. I just didn’t know how else to say it, except that is SUCKS! Really I keep trying to reassure her that she’s done so well because she did go a long time with feeling pretty okay. The last few treatments have been so horrible! She just had her 5th treatment yesterday, so we are down to just 1 more! Yay!!Good crap woman, you are amazing! I can’t believe you had to go thru it on both sides! I’m so sorry & SO extremely glad to hear that you’re both healthy now!! Woo Hoo!!! Thanks for the Great Boost of HOPE, it’s a huge help & just what I needed after yesterday!!!

  10. Whoo Hoo! A snow day!! – which is not something I have experience but once in my entire life – but it was a glorious feeling! Katie is cute in her orange hat 🙂

  11. Oh, I love it! A snowed-in jammie day!! Getting to sleep in and having a pot of coffee ready when you woke! Pretty pictures of snow and adorable daughters. Could life be much better?? I think not!!

  12. that’s so mean to do that to ben! looks like you got much more snow up there in north country 😉 glad you enjoyed the day-coffee, jammies, and snow pants galore!

  13. OMG, I wish we got snow days here in Chicago (expected to get another 6 inches tomorrow) but this is life as we know it, so I have to suck it up and go to work. Waaa! It sure does look pretty though, doesn’t it?

  14. The pictures are BEAUTIFUL!!! Love the snow!!! Little Bit has been asking when it would snow again. The last time it did was January of last year…prior to that? Who knows? BTW, go check out my blog. I tagged you!
